Nicola Beattie was born in London in 1965. She completed a foundation course at Exeter College of Art and Design before graduating in 1990 with a degree in Sculpture from Wimbledon School of Art, London. Nicola spent the following fifteen years working solely in wood, followed by working in stone and many other different media over the next fifteen years. She returned to working in wood alongside stone in 2020 on moving back to Wales where she grew up. Now based in Pembrokeshire, the landscape of Nicola’s Welsh homeland has become central to her practice. Her works are inspired by the architectural remains of ruined castles, ancient standing stones and archaeological relics; places where history feels suspended in time.
With a sculptural career spanning over three decades, Nicola’s work has been shown widely across the UK and internationally, with pieces held in collections across Europe, America, Australia and Hong Kong. Notable bronze commissions include public sculptures in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, and a further bronze in a major installation for the luxury Ontolo development in Tolo Harbour, Hong Kong.
